John Reese Wades Into the Self-Help Arena — No, Wait. He Doesn’t. 0
I read with some interest about John Reese’s new venture into general financial self-help-dom with his new continuity 4 week web class called “Money Mindset” for $497. The copy went on to trumpet something about information overload (definitely true) needing to simply and something about 6 critical secrets, and so on. Even more interestingly, however, was how it was taken down in less than 48 hours. Why?
According to John Reese himself:
Our office received quite a few phone calls and email support tickets expressing concern that they really wanted to attend the “Money Mindset” class but the price was too high. We’ve gotten that feedback on some of our products before, but never like this. This is the ‘loudest’ the volume of feedback has ever been.
The economy is still obviously affecting a lot of people. While many are actually prospering right now in their businesses, many of my other customers are struggling.
The solution?
What I’m going to do instead is change the format of the class away from the live multiple week platform with Q&A/coaching help, and instead go into my studio and produce “Money Mindset” as a digital home study course.
And then I am going to release it and make it available for only $97. And, no, I’m not planning any upsells, forced continuity, or anything. Just this course by itself for only $97.
With no upsells, and so on. Apparently. Now, to be honest, while $500 is expensive, I believe it to be more or less in line with the escalating price of info-products marketing to info-marketers and on-line marketing material in general. When you have $2000 products and(cough, cough MASS EFFECT cough, cough) and three figure continuity programs (cough, cough STOMPERNET cough, cough) not being entirely out of the norm, after a while what’s another $500?
Mr. Reese makes the smart move and tries to spin this as an appeal to the masses as The Right Thing To Do, which it may be. Of course, there are loads of ways to Do The Right Thing, and finding the nexus between Doing The Right Thing and paying the bills will always be a tricky endeavor, so one wonders how he came up with the $97 figure; why not $47 or $19 for the purposes of (another) giant list build to leverage the John Reese brand into the financial motivation stratosphere?
Time, as they sell, will tell.
And, of course, that $97 course, I suppose.
